In this virtual tent you will learn the strategies, pedagogy, and best practices for teaching Hebrew and Judaic Studies to children online, in real-time. ​
About OHEL:
  • This course is designed to provide a thorough introduction to online teaching for all those interested, while also offering ongoing support for participants who will be teaching their first online class while taking this course.
  • Certificate of Completion: Participants may either audit the course or complete assignments and receive a Certificate of Completion from the Board of Jewish Education of Metropolitan Chicago.
  • OHEL's professional development sessions will be delivered in an online format consisting of six synchronous learning experiences for the entire cohort via Zoom. Certificate candidates must participate in four additional sessions. The rest of the cohort is invited, but not required, to attend these additional sessions.

(non-certificate participants are encouraged to audit the additional 4 classes)

$200 per educator at non-BJE Member Schools/Organizations

FREE for Organizations who have a 2016-2017 BJE Sustaining Membership are entitle to enroll one teacher

Stephanie Burak  holds a BA in Art History from Boston University and an MA in Museum Education (and alternative learning environments) from University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Additionally, she has completed graduate level coursework in Elementary Education from Aurora University and has been awarded two online teaching certifications from the Online Learning Consortium. Stephanie had spent the past 5 years teaching college instructors how to design and facilitate online courses. In spring of 2016 she joined Creative Learning Systems full-time as the curriculum design specialist for K-12 SMARTLabs, which are student-centered, STEM and digital media learning environments.

Stephanie has been teaching Hebrew school for over 15 years and has taught Hebrew online for more than three years through Beth Emet, The Free Synagogue in Evanston, IL. She also has several years of experience tutoring students virtually in Judaic studies and Bar Mitzvah training.
